Dust that goes bang

Anything that can burn, can also explode. The grain dust in a wheat silo needs to be kept to a minimum, while flour needs to be contained in a bakery. An explosion of fine paper dust can be a disaster in a recycling plant.

In coal mines they water down the dust to prevent disaster. What can you do in your little (or big) workshop or kitchen to keep things safe? You can’t spray water around if you’re working with wood, or flour, and you can’t always have your workshop open (if you’re after a high gloss finish), or bake in the open air.

A dust extractor can remove most of the dangerous dust – but the finer the dust the greater the potential risk. Very fine dust particles can still explode like a gas.A Microclene Air Filter can remove the very fine, very dangerous, dust that can accumulate in your workspace. All our air filters also have fully-sealed motors so they’re not going to cause a fire.
